"Tang Soo Do" (당수도) is the Korean pronunciation of the Hanja 唐手道 (pronounced Táng shǒu dào in Chinese), and translates literally to "The Way of the Tang Hand." 1970 – the Grandmaster published his “Soo Bahk Do Dae Kahm” (Korean language) 1978 – “Tang Soo Do (Soo Bahk Do)” (English version) was published. His martial arts training  began in the late 60’s while stationed in Korea with the United States Air Force. Grandmaster Romines also currently serves as Regional Director, Northern Region, of the World Dang Soo Do Union-U.S.A. For the first time in history, Americans, U.S. servicemen were allowed to study Korean martial arts. Many servicemen studied Tang Soo Do, including Chuck Norris, star of many martial arts movies and the television series, “Walker, Texas Ranger.”. 1979: Studied Arnis under Grandmaster Remy Presas (founder modern Arnis), no rank achieved The Martial Arts have been with us in one form or another starting with the caveman. He trained daily either at the Osan Air Force Base facilities or in the Do Jangs in Chico Village, Kunsan and/or Soul Korea. He bgean training directly with Grandmaster Hwang Kee in 1945 and in 1947, earned his 1st Degree Black Belt. Currently President of the All American Tang Soo Do Association. At Grandmaster Hwang Kee's Request, he brought Moo Duk Kwan to the United States and founded the Moo Duk Kwan Tang Soo Do Association in Detroit, Michigan. It was his great honor to have studied with Grandmaster General Choi Hong Hi (co-founder of Tae Kwon Do) and Professor E. Humesky, Grandmaster. Received 8th Degree Black Belt / Grand Master Cert. He was able to teach classes in places such as: Paris, Greece, Egypt, Philippines, etc. From the time both of these masters met in Korea until present, they have continually learned and trained together. Grandmaster Romines has been inducted into the Martial Arts Hall of Fame and Who's Who in the Martial Arts. American Kwan Tang Soo Do traces its history back through the ages. Studied Tae Kwon Do for many years, eventually receiving rank of 8th Dan in 2012. He also serves as an ambassador to the Korean Martial Arts Hall of Fame, and is listed in Sa Ja Nim Timmerman's book "Who is Who in Korean Martial Arts". Tang Soo Do and later Tae Kwan Do were the two primary styles studied by our soldiers.
